Development of the full-scale infrastructure will allow Tatarstan to increase the number of local environmentally friendly vehicles.

The official opening and the first charging of an e-vehicle on the public charging station took place at the IT-Park in Kazan. Charging of electric cars during the testing period will be free.

Following the IT-Park, charging stations for vehicles with electric motors will be openedat the “MEGA Kazan” Shopping Center, Kazan International Airport, Innopolis city of high technologies and the “Kazan” Mountain Ski Sport Recreation Complex. As expected, it will be possible to charge up to 18 cars at 9 stations at once. ;the maximum power of 22 kW will be enough to fully charge a small vehicle for less than an hour.

The pilot network of charging stations for electric transport is developed with the support of the Ministry of Information and Communication of the Republic of Tatarstan.

“The future of the automotive industry belongs to electric vehicles. All the automobile manufacturers and the Apple company are considering creation of comfortable and commercially viable “wheel mounted devices”. Some of the first electric vehicles in Tatarstan appeared in Innopolis city of high technologies. The pilot project on development of the infrastructure of charging stations is supported by Rustam Minnikhanov, President of the Republic of Tatarstan. Innopolis University, acting as the project operator, is going to launch the pilot network of charging stations in Tatarstan before the end of the current year. During the first year, the charging service will be free for the electric car owners. The pilot network of charging stations is the first step towards the establishment of sustainable and innovative transportation infrastructure in the Republic of Tatarstan”, - pointed out Roman Shaykhutdinov, Deputy Prime-Minister, Minister of Information and Communication of the Republic of Tatarstan.

“Now electric car owners will be able to charge their vehicles not only at home but also in public places, for instance, while doing shopping or during business meetings. The network of charging stations will remove the “where-to-charge-my-car-if-it-runs-down” psychological barrier, - said Ilya Shimchik, Project Manager and a researcher of Innopolis University.

The IT-Park has always been among the first to support all high-technology innovations in the Republic of Tatarstan. Today we are pleased to join in another novelty and launch the first public charging station for e-vehicles on the territory of the IT-Park. Of course, we understand that there are quite few electric car owners in Kazan. However, the situation can always change. For instance, in 2015 the number of electric cars sold on global markets, where the e-transport is getting more popular, has increased five times as compared to 2014. We hope that in the near future this tendency will reach Russia as well, - noticed Anton Grachev, CEO of the IT-Park. Once we have supported a project on the development of environmentally friendly transport and promotion of cycling in the Republic of Tatarstan. We were one of the first organizations to provide the onsite bicycle parking racks for employees and residents. Today cycling is wel-loved by citizens. As soon as summer comes many people enjoy switching to bicycles”.
