Acting President of the Republic of Tatarstan reviewed the results of the latest developments in the field of automated analysis of medical X-Ray images.

Rustam Minnikhanov, Acting President of the Republic of Tatarstan, had a meeting with the research team of the Medical Images Analysis Lab of Innopolis University during his business trip to Chistopol municipal district. In 2014 the University in cooperation with its industrial partner “Vektor” Radio Company based in Chistopol started to develop a complex of science and technology solutions in the field of X-Ray images recognition in order to create a system for automated recognition of various lung pathologies. This will allow to enhance significantly the effectiveness of automated diagnosis of different forms and locations of lung cancer and tuberculosis.

Dr. Samir Belhaouari, professor of Innopolis University, author of 280 repapers, a researcher with an h-index of 9 acts as the principal investigator.

“This is a good example of how to use fundamental science for practical purposes. We are going to create mobile stations that will enable medical examination in distant parts of the country. Highly accurate algorithms of medical images recognition will identify automatically pathologies and then forward only suspicious results to qualified experts using satellite broadcasting. Thus, we solve social problems of early diagnostics and availability of medical services including the issue of missing and highly-paid qualified experts”, – said Alexander Tormasov, Rector of Innopolis University.

”So far we have received the first promising results. Researchers with a wide experience in machine learning and computer vision have joined the project team. In future successful development of the project will require a great number of learning samples. In this respect we count on support of the Ministry of Health Care”, - noticed Ramil Kuleev, Research Engineer from Innopolis University.
