Innopolis University is awarded a new grant

31 марта 2016

The new IT University received a grant from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation and gained access to Questel-Orbit, the world largest database of patents.

The access to the Questel base is now open for all faculty members of the University from individual IP-addresses. Last December the Grants Management Office submitted a grant application and today the University has received a confirmation of the grant award.

Questel provides access to databases of intellectual property. Containing over 55 million patent documents and a number of industrial samples, useful models, and trade marks, the collection of the Questel patent fund is considered the most complete in the world.

Over 30 years, the platform has been collecting data from 95 patent offices in all parts of the world. All patents are grouped according to their topic, which makes it easier to manage the database. Apart from data regarding registered patents, Questel contains information on documents starting from the date of application submission up to registration.

The service will help the faculty members of Innopolis University to perform a number of tasks, in particular: competitive and marketing analysis, early forecasting of competing products and services; identification of innovation leaders by countries, regions and industries; assessment of prospective development areas; identification of the so-called "hidden partners"; learning about developments made by competitors; choice of areas and analysis of feasibility of research and development; analysis of feasibility of license purchase; prevention of legal threats in the sphere of patent rights of the third parties; assessment, forecasting and risk analysis of competitive abilities of a technology or a product; identification of attractive investment areas.
