Innopolis University will host the Kontur.Kampus school of industrial development

1st-4th year students of the IT University are eligible to take part in the event.

Kontur.Kampus is a school of industrial development invented and organized by employees of SKB Kontur. The first school session took place in 2013 in Ekaterinburg and welcomed 16 participants. Since then eight similar schools were opened in Ekaterinburg, Izhevsk and Novosibirsk with 150 participants in total.

This year SKB Kontur is organizing the Kampus in Innopolis, a new Russian city. The deadline for submission of proposals from Innopolis University students is October 12.

The main target of the Kampus is to teach students how to transform the knowledge obtained at the university into programming skills. It is not a secret that academic programming is very different from the one necessary to work in IT companies. In the framework of the Kampus, developers explain students the main principles of industrial programming and technologies, provide them with tools for further independent studies of the relevant topics.

Pavel Egorov, Deputy Head of the Software Development Department of SKB Kontur and the founder of the programming school said: “Three days include 10 lecture hours and 15 hours of practice. Experienced mentors help students in solving practical tasks, suggest ideas and manage the progress. Working on the solution, students evaluate their learning level while communication with mentors helps them to fill the knowledge gaps and clarify challenging aspects”.

The working language is C#. It is a popular programing language used by many Russian and international companies dealing with web-service design. The course content was developed considering knowledge and skills applied at the Software Development Department of SKB Kontur. Meanwhile, the course is not tailored specifically for a certain company and will be useful for all C#-developers.

At the Kampus most of practical tasks are to be accomplished in pairs. Besides, each task shall be done in a new pair. Thanks to this participants have enough time to get acquainted with each other. This enhances the teamwork skills, i.e. the ability to make agreements and resolve controversial issues, which are vital for group work.

The key objective of the school is to motivate students for further independent studies, provide tools and outline the paths of professional development. It is quite a challenge to turn common students into promising first-class programmers. Both the organizers and participants of the school understand it.

Further progress depends on a participant’s personal efforts and willingness to spend time on processing of the learned material upon completion of the school session. For this purpose, mentors provide links to study resources and suggest tasks for independent work after the course is completed. Experience has proven that in a year students demonstrate a dramatic progress and can easily get the position of an Assistant Software Engineer.

Participation in the Kampus does not mean that students have to choose SKB Kontur as their future employer. However, one third part of 150 participants of the school of industrial development have already become the company members.
