The non-commercial project is created by IT enthusiasts of Innopolis University and aimed at promotion of science, education and information technology. According to developers, this game having 300 elements related to science, IT and the geek culture, is an encyclopaedia of IT trends.

“The 2 Сhance ("Second Chance") is based on the Alchemy game. According to the scenario, our planet suffered several cataclysms and catastrophes that brought the human race on the verge of extinction. The player is a scientist who woke up in a cryogenic chamber after a hundred years of sleep. Now his task is to bring back the life on the Earth. The player has only three basic elements – the human, the hardware and the bit. The right combination of these elements is a way to open new elements. The player can rotate the smartphone screen and see how the new elements has changed the world”, — commented Timur Fazullin, Director for Public Relations at Innopolis University.

In total, the game includes 300 elements divided into 15 categories: people, hardware, software, network, processors, engineering, cybercrime, celebrities, artefacts, medicine, the Universe, history, powers, science, visualization. The game developers added a detailed description to each element to clarify the meaning of the Higgs boson, DDOS-attack, the String Theory, Schrödinger's cat, logic bomb, polymorph, technological singularity, botnet, and even the “rain dance”.

“It took over half a year to develop the game – we designed all 300 elements, made their description, developed the app on Unity3D, and even composed a catchy melody. One of our researchers consulted us during the game development”, - said Timur.

Stanislav Protasov, Senior Research Engineer of Innopolis University:

“We did not aim to assign a scientific status to the game. Our purpose was to make the game entertaining and allow players obtain objective knowledge.

Today the popular science is quite in-demand. Science communicators try different channels to supply such content, starting from scientific battles, YouTube channels, and podcasts up to adventure games and interactive museums. Why not to try the games? It is necessary to see the difference between the science communication and education: the first one creates interest, while the second one serves to fill the gaps in knowledge. The game refers to science communication. We aim to get young people interested in science, give them a general idea of technology. When making a career choice, they will choose a path that will help to improve or even save the world — for instance, some IT area”.

On the way to the better world, the player will face familiar phenomena like polar light, bank, selfie, justice; meet Arnold Schwarzenegger, agent Smith, and jedi. Opening of certain elements and error-free gameplay will help players to receive in-game awards.

The game is free and available in the Russian and English versions for smartphones based on iOS and Android. Find it on the AppStore or Google Play.
