Experts of the IT University developed theoretical and practical tasks for the robotics section and prepared a competition platform

On March 25-29, 11 teams of students of 9—11 forms that have reached the final stage of the section of Intelligent Robotic Systems will meet in Sochi. Participants will be challenged with tasks on navigation and localisation of a robotic device in a room. In particular, they will assemble a robot using a TRIK construction kit, a gyroscope and an accelerometer, and then design the control device. The robotic track is notable for missing guide paths and visual reference points. Thus, students will have to think over some navigation options based on estimation of distance to obstacles and length of the travelled path.

“To understand the importance of the navigation task, just imagine that it determines the operation of the robot and the pilots control unit choosing the best route in the city. It also conditions the work of a mechanical loader in a logistic terminal, controls a rescue robot moving through debris and a manipulator at an automotive factory”, — told Alexander Kolotov, Lead Specialist of STEM Programs at Innopolis University.

The expert noticed that the main task of participants is to map out and get through the best route reaching the final point, considering that its position data the robot will learn in the course of the trial. “The teams shall solve the task stepwise. This is how real industry projects are developed”, — emphasised a team member of Innopolis University.
