Elmira Shimchik, Director for International and Academic Cooperation presented current activities of the University and shared experience in building of the international partnership network in academia.
This year Going Global took place in Cape Town, the second largest city of the Republic of South Africa, gathering representatives of higher education institutions, intergovernmental organizations and political circles from all over the world. The main topic of the forum was "Building Nations and Connecting Cultures: Education Policy, Economic Development and Engagement", it brought together hundreds of participants, who discussed aspects of international projects in the field of education: their compliance with national and regional priorities, influence on economic development and innovations, the role of governments and industry in development of partnerships.
Elmira Shimchik spoke on the topic of "Internationalization of Young Universities in Emerging Economies: by the Example of Innopolis University, Russia". Director for International and Academic Cooperation described the experience in creation of an international partner network and mentioned existing challenges and ways to overcome them based on the example of Russian IT-University: "Innopolis University is only three years old, but even at this stage of development we have managed to establish cooperation with a number of universities that hold high positions in the world rankings," - she said.
For young higher education institutions the task of building and strengthening their reputation is of big importance. Besides, young universities are at the initial stage of forming their faculty, in the same time it is the academic staff who traditionally establishes contacts between universities: “These conditions can cause a significant limitation of opportunities to establishing cooperation with foreign counterparts”. However, Elmira Shimchik emphasized that realization of various modes of cooperation, considering the profile of international colleagues and mutual interests shows good results.
«Going Global has become a useful platform, providing us a chance to share the experience gained by Innopolis University with our colleagues in order to promote international partnership, discuss actual issues and effective strategies. Among the conference participants there were many representatives of young universities showing very good results in consolidation of their positions at the international level," - said Elmira Shimchik.
